Aston Hill Bike Park is a mountain bike venue situated just outside Wendover in Buckinghamshire, on one of the steeper slopes within the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
They say it very well themselves…
The park features five graded downhill (DH) runs, a 4X track, a pumptrack and a two-part cross-country (XC) loop. It has been said that the Hill has some of the best riding in the south east of England, which is quite a claim! Obviously this is almost impossible to verify as ‘good riding’ is as unique as the person describing it, but it is fair to say there’s something at the Hill to challenge everyone of every mountain bike discipline, although it’s pretty tricky in winter as the trails are often wet chalk, clay and tree roots.
Both cross-country (XC) and downhill (DH) beginners can improve here very quickly under supervision using the lower graded runs and the top section of the XC loop. The pumptrack is also suitable for riders of all ages and abilities to ride on. Or riders can get benefit from the expertise of a skills coach on one of the many MTB training courses available.
Aston Hill is very lucky to have some highly experienced trail designers and builders and the tracks are in a constant state of evolution to maintain a heady mix of old-school naturally technical and more contemporary ‘flow’-based riding. Since 2008 every trail has been tuned to add interest and reduce permanent damage to the Hill, while adhering to Forestry Commission and IMBA guidelines.
The Cycle Chilterns Pumptrack at Aston Hill
Built in 2013 the new pumptrack is a fantastic addition to the facilities at Aston Hill. Suitable for all ages and abilities the pumptrack is built on a fairly level section of ground close to the car park for easy access.
With an all-weather surface the pumptrack is designed so it can be used by children as young as 3 on balance bikes to scoot round and over the bumps, through to elite athletes honing their cornering, pumping and jumping techniques.
It’s a great way practice basic skills and progress; gradually getting faster, jumping the table tops and finally jumping the doubles and creating your own lines to impress onlookers.
A day pass for using the Bike Park can be purchased through the CTC for £6. Annual membership of the Aston Hill Bike Park costs £71 for adults or £47 for U18s.
