Back by popular demand we have another series of Brewery Rides coming up this summer across the Chilterns. Returning to some old favourites we’ll also be visiting some new breweries with some new routes on offer too.
The rides will use the tried and tested format of meeting up on a Saturday morning to collect a ‘beer token’ and route map and then heading off to the brewery or completing a circular route to return to the start point at the brewery. But, you don’’t have to complete our route, you can ride wherever you want to for as long as you want to and still collect a free pint. It’s all about getting out on your bike!
Three dates and venues have been confirmed so far with more to follow.
28th June 2014 – Lovibonds Brewery, Henley-on-Thames
10-11am: Pick up a ‘beer token’ from the brewery and go for a ride. We’ll have a map with a couple of recommended road routes to complete, or use your local knowledge to do something different. Get back to the brewery and exchange your beer token for a well deserved pint of Lovibonds beers.
The suggested route is quite undulating and around 20 miles long heading out of Henley along the Fair Mile on the shared use path to Lower Assendon. It then gradually climbs all the way up to Stoke Row (make sure you pop along to the Maharajah’s Well) and returns via NCN Route 5 and the Chilterns Cycleway. As always there will be some hill options and routes extension.
Car Parking: The brewery is next to the Greys Road car park (3hr stay only) or there is parking at the train station and Meadow Road near the River & Rowing Museum. (all chargeable)
Travelling by train: First Great Western run regular train services to Henley-on-Thames from London Paddington and Reading. The station is less than half a mile from the brewery.
19th July 2014 – Great Missenden train station to Chiltern Brewery, Terrick
10.30-11.30am: Collect your ‘beer token’ from the Cycle Chilterns team at Great Missenden train station. We’ll also have a road route suggestion to get you to the Chiltern Brewery and back but there’s so much great riding around there you can go whatever way you want to.
11-1pm: Exchange your beer token for a free pint at the Chiltern Brewery, have a mooch around, buy some delicious pickles, bread, biscuits, English whisky and fruit gin, realise you’ve got no way of carrying it, head back to Great Missenden, pick up the car and return to the brewery to collect your purchases (all entirely optional but that’s what happened last time!)
Car parking: Lots at Great Missenden train station, chargeable.
Travelling by train: Chiltern Railways run regular trains between London Marylebone and Aylesbury, stopping at Great Missenden with just a 40 minute journey time from Marylebone.
9th August 2014 – Tring Brewery, Tring
10-11am: Pick up your free beer voucher from the Cycle Chilterns team at the Tring Brewery. We’ll have maps with road routes to follow. Return to the brewery after your ride to pick up your free pint and there’’ll be a free brewery tour too.
Car Parking: The brewery only has parking for 10-15 cars, extra car parking is available in the centre of Tring, across the road in the supermarket or at Tring train station.
Travelling by train: Tring train station is just 1.5 miles outside of Tring with a traffic-free cycle route from the station into the centre of Tring and a cut-through across the playing fields to get to the brewery.
