There are lots of cycling groups and clubs in and around the Chilterns covering Beds, Herts, Bucks and Oxon catering to a wide range of abilities – from Saturday morning tea shop rides to Tuesday evening club runs, there’s something for everyone.
Many of the groups listed below organise a number of rides throughout the week, catering to different types of riding. Some of them are official clubs affiliated to either the CTC or British Cycling, others are just groups of friends or bike shops that get together on a regular basis.
Riding with a group is a great way to help improve your cycling and give you the motivation to get out and ride on even the dreariest day. Road & Mixed Terrain Groups
Amersham Road Cycling Club www.amershamrcc.com
Amersham RCC was established in 2006 by a group of local riders to cater for cyclists of all ages and most abilities. Despite the name they are based in Great Missenden, Bucks in the heart of the Chilterns, where they do the majority of their riding. They run club rides every Saturday and Sunday.
Aylesbury Cycling Club www.aylesburycc.org
The club has been in existence for over 50 years and continues to be the only cycling club in the Aylesbury Vale catering for regular road and offroad club rides, starter groups, training sessions, racing, touring etc. Their regular group rides leave at 9.00a.m. every Saturday and Sunday. They also have a couple of midweek sessions.
Chiltern Society Cycling Group www.chilternsociety.org.uk
The Chiltern Society cycling group, mainly retired, cycle during the week along the many quiet roads and bridleways in the Chilterns. They have over 50 current members of their ‘Easy-Rider’ Thursday group as well as over 20 members for the speedier Monday ‘Road’ group and the Tuesday ‘Off-Road’ group.
Berkhamsted Cycling Club (BCC Facebook page)
A road cycling club set up in 2014 and formally affiliated to British Cycling, it is a community sporting association with over 150 members. The Club is involved in social rides through to racing and time trials. All road cyclists (16+) are welcome, regular rides take place on Saturdays and split into groups to cater for abilities. The CTC South Bucks member group is long established in the heart of the Chilterns. There are three weekend riding groups in the area, Aylesbury, Chiltern Hills and Thames Valley each offering one or two rides on Sundays with something for everyone. The also have mid-week group. Read more…

In Hertfordshire there are four different sections covering roughly the West, North (Stevenage & Hitchin area), East (The Stort Valley including Bishops Stortford & Harlow) and South (including St.Albans & Hatfield). They are a leisure club, they ride their bikes on organised rides.

South Herts are a friendly group leading with a good range of rides on offer from a Wednesday evening pub pootle to all day Sunday outings with elevenses and lunch. A gentle Saturday Saunter has now also been added. Read more about South Herts CTC…

The Wallingford group has rapidly become popular since it started in 2013. They currently focus on sociable rides on Sunday afternoons. The first Sunday of each month is a leisurely ride, the third Sunday is a ‘slightly longer, slightly faster’. Non-CTC members are welcome to try out riding with them before joining. Read more…
The Gregarios Superclub Ciclista are a friendly club, with an Italian theme based in Hatch End. They have over 50 members, and head out regularly into The Chilterns (and other areas too) with rides every Sunday. They generally have two groups each week, and also take part in Sportives in the UK and Europe. “So if we’re on your patch and currently riding on your own then just make contact and arrange to come along and join our gang! :)”
Ivinghoe Velos www.ivinghoevelos.org.uk
The (I)vinghoe Velos are a group of residents of the Buckinghamshire villages Ivinghoe and Pitstone that get together regularly for a bike ride. It is suitable for all fitness and equipment levels. Lycra and carbon fibre definitely not essential! Saturday morning Tea Rides, summer evening rides and regular longer Sunday rides.
Marlow Riders marlowriders.org.uk
A CTC affiliated club, Marlow Riders are the home of cycling in Marlow and the surrounding areas of South Bucks and Berkshire. The fast expanding club is based upon sociable cycling for all. They welcome all levels of cyclists to join them… riders will not be left behind. Read more…
Milton Keynes CTC www.mkctc.org.uk
Milton Keynes Cyclists’ Touring Club (MKCTC) is a friendly mixed group covering a wide age range. They ride on Sundays, usually having a cafe stop in the morning or afternoon and stopping for a snack at a pub or cafe at lunchtime; they usually return home around 4-5 pm. It is possible to simply do a half-day ride if you can’t spare a whole day. They also join with members of other clubs for a Wednesday run.

A group of cyclists short on time, big on cycling passion their rides start in Tring and cover Beds, Herts and Bucks. Rides take place every Sunday, often splitting into two groups. There’s no affiliation, no membership, essentially just turn up and ride with an approachable and friendly bunch of cyclists.

Mountain Bike Groups
Aston Hill MTB www.rideastonhill.co.uk
This is a CTC member group based at Aston Hill MTB Park near Wendover. They mainly focus on mountain biking, particularly downhill mountain biking and regularly compete in races. Annual membership to the club includes CTC membership and free all year round access to Aston Hill Bike Park.
Bucks MTB www.bucksmtb.co.uk
BucksMTB are a ‘BikeClub’ and CTC affiliated Mountain Bike Club based in the Chiltern Hills primarily covering Buckinghamshire, however they do also cater for mountain bikers in the surrounding counties of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire. They organise regular weekend rides. Read more…

This club ride off-road in the Chilterns, out of Berkhamsted – Ashridge etc. They do evening rides too, often from Lovelo Cycle Works in Berkhamsted. They also venture further afield at times with trips across the UK (and beyond). Informal and unaffiliated.
Summit MTB www.summitmtb.co.uk
Summit MTB is a mountain bike club riding all across the Chiltern Hills. Summit MTB is also a registered Go-Ride club and offers young members aged between 6-16 years coaching, riding, and racing activities. They have regular club rides. They race. They have fun.
