Childrens Bikeability Training

Level 1 training – basic control

Boost your child’s confidence on a bike this summer and then join them for a ride on our free Bikeability training courses.

Back for one final time in 2015, Cycle Chilterns is running more Bikeability sessions for children across the Chilterns over the summer holidays. Following our unique and popular format of the sessions last summer, the training will take place over a week with two hour sessions each day.

On Monday, the children will go through Bikeability Level 1 training, learning basic control and signalling movements in a safe environment away from cars and traffic. Children aged 10 years or over can then carry on to Bikeability Level 2. (Level 1 can be booked for any child without having to move on to Level 2.)

The Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday sessions will cover the Bikeability Level 2 training and give participants a real cycling experience. Children are taught how to deal with traffic on short journeys, road positioning and negotiating junctions as well as other real-world skills.

On the final day, parents are invited to bring their bikes along and join in the fun by going for a short ride to see what has been learnt and to brush up on the latest cycling advice to help their child continue to practice. This day has proven very popular in the past with a majority of parents taking the opportunity to ride with their children, seeing the newfound confidence first hand.
